ASBO’s for bingo players?!

In local bingo related news, it seems the world offline is just as crazy (if not more) than it’s online counterpart. According to the Mirror, it seems an elderly group of bingo players have been getting a little too boisterous when it comes to the bingo balls, and as a result, have been threatened with ASBO’s by their local council. The group, who played their own games at their sheltered housing complex, have apparently been rapped on the wrists for getting a little too rowdy, with other residents complaining about the noise.

The late night bingo sessions seemed to have disturbed some of the other residents, who reported the bingo fans to the council. Although the council have yet to carry out their threat, it seems the promise of an ASBO was dished out as a deterrent, and a swift reminder to the pensioners to keep it down a little. The council have since stated the obvious, admitting that an ASBO would be a bit of a heavy handed punishment for making too much noise whilst playing bingo.

Of course, many have suggested the group just take it to a local bingo hall like Mecca Bingo or Gala Bingo, or perhaps even make the switch to online bingo. In fact, there were several sites suggesting such a thing. Which is all great and good, but sometimes, we get that players just prefer the meeting and greeting aspect that comes with a trip to your bingo hall, or organising a real get together. Although online bingo sites offer plenty in the way of interaction, jackpots, bonuses and so on, there still is a bit of a way to go before one can replace the other.

Which got us thinking. Sure enough, we love the fact that online bingo has opened up the game of bingo to a whole new group of players. We love that you can get some big jackpots all day and all night. And we really love the efforts of some bingo sites to try and compensate for some of the things you lose in online bingo, be it the addition of multiplayer features at Virgin Bingo, the live bingo options of Crown Bingo or team events which you can find at sites like Wink Bingo and pretty much any decent online bingo site.

But there is still a little way to go before you can plausibly tempt die hard fans of local and land based bingo games to pitching up online. And we think online bingo operators should learn a thing or two from offline bingo when it comes to taking the next step. Because like the local bingo halls that seem to be dropping like flies, online bingo needs to keep evolving if it is gonna continue it’s run as the golden child of gaming. And for us, we think that making online bingo an even better community experience is certainly one of the areas where it can make big leaps and bounds, and where it can catch up with the local bingo club. Now that would be something you definitely couldn’t threaten with an ASBO.
