Err… really?! According to a recent interview with the Mirror, Simon Webbe has “shockingly” revealed that he likes nothing better than whisking a lady on the first date to the uber romantic setting of…. a bingo hall. Yup, our jaws were on the floor as well.
But in the interview, Webbe revealed that he thinks it’s a great first date setting, as it offers something for everyone, saying “You get to interact, see if a girl’s coordinated, maybe win a bit of cash and have fun.” Now, we are not sure if a bingo hall is the best place to find out whether your potential new squeeze is coordinated, as it doesn’t really take that much to put dauber to card… but still, the boy from Blue likes bingo, so we can’t complain!
In a seemingly “still humble” move, Webbe, who has made a bit of name for himself in the West End after hitting the top with Blue, ‘fessed that despite his successful solo career, he was still into regular everyday things, like taking girls to bingo halls on first dates…
“No one thinks about bingo as a date and people laugh about it, but girls love it,” Webbe remarked.
See, them ‘slebs, they are just like us. And another big bonus for Webbe was that if the date was going well, a bingo club shuts at a reasonable hour, allowing them to make the most of the night and head off to a club for a spot of dancing. Down to earth and always thinking – yet we still can’t believe Simon Webbe thinks of a bingo hall as an ideal first date spot?!?!!!
And yet it seems now is the yearly “celebrities and bingo mix really well” season, what with recent news reports spotting Jennifer Love Hewitt and Elizabeth Perkins playing a few games of bingo in the name of charidee for an animal rescue group. Not to mention the recent promotional appearance by Countdown number cruncher Carol Vorderman at Foxy Bingo the other day to answer questions and plug her latest projects. Perhaps Webbe could capitalise on his love of bingo with a bit of an online bingo partnership – lord knows, we’ve heard stranger things.
