Bingo player attacked on way home from bingo hall

A 56 year old bingo player from Doncaster was viciously attacked on her way home from her local bingo hall last month. The attack was part of an attempted robbery, and happened after an evening playing bingo at her local bingo hall. It has led many to reiterate the need for safety in numbers, with bingo players urged to ensure they get home safe from their local bingo hall by having someone accompany them.

The  player had left the Gala Bingo hall on Wheatley Hall Road at around 9.45pm on 12th November when the attack occurred.  The victim was walking alone along a footpath when she was attacked from behind  by a male attacker who attempted to grab her handbag off of her. The woman bravely battled with her attacker, attempting to fight back and as a result was knocked to the ground. Despite sustaining some injuries from the attack, the  woman still managed to hold on to her bag, forcing the man to flee the attempted mugging and leave the scene.

The assailant is thought to have been in his twenties, and of tall and slim build. He was wearing a light coloured hooded top, and was accompanied by another man who was not directly involved in the assault. He was of similar build, but described as wearing a darker coloured hooded top.

It is thought that the woman, although severely shaken from the incident, has sustained no serious harm, in what is most certainly a very near miss situation.

Although the attack is an isolated incident, it still has prompted many to reassess their safety, particularly during the dark nights of the winter months. Many have advised bingo players who play at local bingo clubs to travel with at least another player, to avoid the possibility of increasing the odds of such an attack. Players are also advised to avoid quiet or dark roads and paths, and to keep valuables such as mobile phones, MP3 players or purses safely hidden from view.

However, we also stress that should you feel a little shaken, there are a number of online bingo sites which can provide a viable and attractive alternative to some offline bingo clubs. Take a look at our reviews to find the best online bingo club for you. But for all players, whether online or offline, we urge them to ensure they are safe and secure, so as not to jeopardize their bingo fun.
