Normally we love reporting to you about what bingo winners do with their jackpots – it gives us a good excuse to imagine what we would like to do! Whether it’s donating to charity, going on a shopping spree, sorting out the finances or splashing the cash a little and treating yourselves to a well deserved break – there really is no end to the possibilities! Which is why the latest news has shocked us a little, with the news that one bingo winner eventually wound up in a spot of trouble with the law after “investing” her winnings – in drugs.
Amanda Bradshaw had managed to scoop a jackpot of £500 at her local Mecca Bingo club in Stockton. However, it seems that she decided that her winnings could be put to good use – by purchasing a large quantity of amphetamines to sell on to her friends.
Miss Bradshaw had started to take amphetamines in an attempt to lose weight, and as a result, became increasingly sure of her ‘winning’ business idea, Teeside Crown Court was told. Miss Bradshaw, from Stockton, was eventually busted by police who carried out a series of raids at two separate addresses in Stockton, including the home of Bradshaw’s mother.
The police had obtained a warrant to search both residences, and found substantial amounts of the drug at her mother’s house. The court was told that the drugs had been stored in a freezer, with Bradshaw explaining they had been kept at her mother’s house to avoid her children finding out about her dodgy dealings. Moreover, Bradshaw’s mother was not aware of the existence of the Class B drug, with the haul recovering a stash with a street value of £900 pounds.
Bradshaw did not deny the drugs were hers, and was described in court as an “extremely limited lady”, who had learning difficulties and had attended a special school as a child.
Judge Tony Briggs handed the mother an 18 month suspended prison sentence, alongside a 12 month supervision order.
Now, we’ve heard of some daft things to do with your bingo winnings, but buying drugs with the intent to supply surely has to top the list?!
