The Weather Outside may be Frightful, but Online Bingo is so Delightful!

The cold snap that is holding the UK in its icy grasp is annoying for some, but for online bingo operators, it seems to be doing the trick for their player rates. Whilst other sectors like retail have seen fewer shoppers making the trek to the sales, and Britain’s planes, trains and automobiles are still going nowhere fast, once again, the online bingo world seems to be booming in the midst of a lot of bust.

According to some industry experts, the online bingo industry is well placed to weather not only the financial storm, but also the many blizzards that having been keeping us by our fires – and near our computers. With many Britons choosing to stay inside, online bingo has been a welcome form of entertainment. Greg Johnson, an analyst for Shore Capital said, “The consumer side is not bad as far as previous years are concerned when the bingo industry was hit by the smoking ban and wasn’t a growth industry. If you look historically at bingo they have seen sharp declines in spend.”

And many bingo companies were quick to wax lyrical about how the adverse weather had made their profits soar. The Rank Group, who own online bingo giant Mecca Bingo, said sales were up by 3%, and many attribute the growth to their online bingo operation. The company even reported a massive 29% increase in the number of people playing bingo since the snow first began falling over many parts of the UK weeks ago!

Also adding their name to the list of snow lovers is our personal fave Wink bingo, who have reportedly seen a jawdropping 50% increase in players sampling their wares!  “With the bad weather, people seem to be looking for more ways of keeping themselves entertained indoors,” said, Marketing Director for Wink Bingo, Maurice Karpes.

Personally, we think it may also have something to do with Wink’s recent “Win a Mini” promo and their upcoming £12k bill paying giveaway on the 29^th… but we also know Wink Bingo has been going a little snow mad, recently giving away 10,000 bps for the best pics of roomies winter wonderlands! And it’s this interaction that is one of the reasons why Wink Bingo’s chat rooms are getting hot hot hot at the moment, explains Karpes.

“Online gaming gives them a chance not only to play inexpensively and maybe win, but also to interact with other players. We had a pyjama party in one of our on-site chat rooms last week and had literally hundreds of players talking to each other online.”

Although the cold weather looks set to turn in the next few days, we have a feeling that many operators, including Wink Bingo, are more than happy to let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
