When one lucky Wink Bingo roomie won big on one of the bingo sites top games, she was determined that the money go to a good cause. And thanks to her Wink bingo win, the Northampton mother has managed to give a little back to her local hospital to repay a longstanding, priceless debt.
Myra Carbin, of Camp Hill, Northampton, found herself indebted to the staff at John Radcliffe Hospital, after doctors performed a life saving operation on her daughter Niave when she was only four weeks old.
Northampton General Hospital doctors had diagnosed Niave with a heart problem and said she had only an hour to live. She was immediately transferred to specialists at John Radcliffe Hospital, who managed to beat the clock and save her life.
Until recently, Mrs Carbin was unable to thank the hospital in the way she wanted to. After the surgery, she vowed to repay them by purchasing equipment that could help the hospital continue to save the lives of many other children requiring urgent medical care.
But then she logged onto a Wink Bingo game, and was astonished to scoop a massive £25,000 prize. As a result, she is now able to fulfil her personal commitment to the doctors and hospital that saved her daughters life. Her cash has bought a machine worth £700 which automatically injects drugs into frail babies at timed intervals, freeing up the busy nurses to give more care.
Speaking to her local paper, Mrs Carbin said: “We said on that day that if we ever got the chance, we’d give something back to them. After the win we remembered how each piece of equipment had a little plaque on saying who had donated it so we thought that would be perfect. They use so many of the machines that we hope a new one will be a good help to them.”
Such a machine was crucial in aiding Niave’s recovery. Doctors had diagnosed that the medical problem meant the valves in Niave’s heart were pumping blood in the wrong direction and she needed an emergency bypass operation. She went on to make a full recovery on John Radcliffe’s paediatric intensive care unit.
Now Niave is six and healthy, Mrs Carbin has also managed to use her winnings to treat her family. They have been on to a trip to Disneyland Paris, and she has also used the Wink bingo winnings to makeover the family home.
She said: “The fact that it was so unexpected persuaded my husband and we should do enjoy it and do good things with it too. Being able to help John Radcliffe Hospital is just the icing on the cake.”
