And one of the players who won the opportunity recently spoke out, saying how she hopes the ad spot will mark a new chapter in her life.Fiona Dow, from Yeovil, will be enjoying her five minutes of fame on TV as one of the lucky Tombola Bingo players who won the prized place on the Tombola ads, which will be watched by more than seven million viewers during Emmerdale on ITV1.
She features as part of the new sponsorship of the show by the UK’s number one online bingo site, tombola.co.uk which after a few minor delays is well underway. The deal between Tombola Bingo and Emmerdale has been extended a little, and will run until the end of January 2010. It includes broadcast sponsorship on ITV1, ITV2 and ITV3, online sponsorship at itv.com/emmerdale, interactive sponsorship, mobile interactive bumpers and licensing.
It means Fiona could be seen on Emmerdale for quite a few weeks, and no doubt she will relish the chance of being recognised by many Emmerdale and Tombola Bingo fans. Fiona’s journey onto the smallscreen started only a few months ago, when a a £10,000 jackpot playing bingo on tombola.co.uk set the wheels in motion for TV fame.
She said: “I just couldn’t take it in at the time. I was playing Cinco, which is a card-based bingo game, and I’ll never forget those two cards I was waiting for – the King of Hearts and the two of diamonds. When they popped up, I was stunned. I didn’t know what to do!”
The 40-year-old production administrator at Westland added: “I live each day to the full. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I jumped at the chance to have my five minutes of fame.”
When asked what she would do with her prize money, the lucky lady said it would be spent on a dream wedding to her partner Max Snook, who recently popped the question to her. He had sprung a massive surprise on her when taking her back to her Dunfermline roots for her 40th birthday, and got down on one knee if front of all her old friends and family.
The couple also hope to use some of the money for a dream cruise, to seal the deal for their happily ever after tale.
Of her appearance on TV, Fiona said: “When I saw tombola’s appeal for players to appear in their sponsorship of Emmerdale, I thought I’d give it a go.
“I didn’t really expect to hear much back, but I’m glad I’ve been able to prove I’m a real person who won real money, as so many people seem to have their doubts.
“The shoot was so much fun. I had an unforgettable day.”
Fiona joins around 100 tombola.co.uk players, who all will be seen for a few seconds during the slots, which bumper each episode including ad breaks.
